Youth At-Risk

Drawing on behavioral principles intrinsic to traditional martial arts philosophies, such as self-control, respect and responsibility, our educational program enables troubled youth from low socio-economic backgrounds who are often prone to belligerent tendencies,to participate in martial arts, maximize their potential and transform their negative energies into positive leadership.

Apart from the strenuous physical exercises, our students learn mental and physical discipline, strategies on how to turn aggression into positive energy with the motivation for positive change and commit to a broad vision of societal response to violence.

The project benefits the youth by:

  • Focusing on self-control and measured breathing,  channeling anger and frustrations into controlled disciplined movements of grace and beauty
  • Using a step-by-step approach to master martial arts exercises and movements, which provides them with a sense of structure and routine
  • Improving their self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Advocating tolerance, mutual respect and personal responsibility
